The list uses the same inclusion criteria as the article Muslim terrorism and includes failed attempts that qualify these criteria. In total, there have been over 18,000 Islamic terrorist attacks since 2001.

Osama bin Laden (1957–2011) was the founder of Al-Qaeda, the jihadist organization responsible for many high profile attacks, including the 1998 U.S. embassy bombings and the September 11 attacks.
